Smell the coffee..??

Nescafe Open Up
by Laurie Anderson

You can be rich with no money to spend,

you can do everything when you understand,

you can be mother when you are a man,

open up - you know that you can.

Open your eyes, open your mind, open your thoughts - Don’t stay behind!

(Open up, open up, open up, open up)

Nescafé

(Open up, open up, open up, open up)

The key is inside you to open your mind,

you know what is helping (outhere???) - your heart can’t be blind,

open your eyes and open your mind,

open your thoughts - Don’t stay behind!

Open your eyes, open your mind, open your thoughts - Don’t stay behind!

(Open up, open up, open up, open up)

Nescafé

(Open up, open up)

You race all the boarders and start in your head,

open your mind to thoughts out and say, (????)

open your eyes and open your mind,

open your thoughts and don’t stay behind.

Open your eyes, open your mind, open your thoughts - Don’t stay behind!

(Open up, open up, open up, open up)

Nescafé

(Open up, open up, open up, open up

Open up, open up,

Open up, open up)

Nescafé

(Open up, open up,

open up, open up,

open up, open up,

open up, open up,

open up, open up)

Fly Away

Fly Away
Originally uploaded by "The Wanderer's Eye"

A trek has been eluding me for sometime and now I reckon that am  ruled out for any more treks this season! So just to make up for all the lost opportunities, I went on a hike up the hills located behind the Infy, Pune phase II campus.

Was reminded of Jim Reeves song:

Some glad morning when this life is o'er I'll fly away
To a home on God's celestial shore I'll fly away
I'll fly away oh Glory I'll fly away when I die hallelujah by and by I'll fly away
When the shadows of this life have flown I'll fly away
Like a bird from prison bars has flown I'll fly away
I'll fly away oh Glory I'll fly away when I die hallelujah by and by I'll fly away

Just a few more weary days and then I'll fly away
To a land where joy shall never end I'll fly away
I'll fly away oh Glory yes I'll fly away when I die hallelujah by and by I'll fly away

A fifer at Infy

Its been a long 5 years in Infy. By the pure mercies of God, I could complete a fifer in Infy on the 26th of Sept. By today's IT industry standards, staying in the same company for more than 3 years is a rare trend! eh bien, I feel like a museum piece now.. ;) :P

When all my concentration is on getting the photograph right, there's yet a small whisper!
There are days in life when everything is apparently smooth and then you are there right on top feeling ecstatic, praising God as if you are on a mountain top; and then there are those despicably forgettable days, tumultuous days of  anguish and sorrow when you take offence to God. But the Word lucidly states that the glory of the Lord is revealed only when there is perfect rest in the Lord; neither a mountain nor a valley, but a trustful rest!!

Go Outside

"The best remedy for those who are afraid, lonely or unhappy is to go outside, somewhere where they can be quiet, alone with the heavens, nature and God. Because only then does one feel that all is as it should be and that God wishes to see people happy, amidst the simple beauty of nature."

Let thy goodness, like a fetter,
bind my wandering heart to thee.
Prone to wander, Lord, I feel it,
prone to leave the God I love;
here's my heart, O take and seal it,
seal it for thy courts above."

Cyclone Laila unleashed its fury upon the East coast of India. What does it mean for Bangalore? Amazingly beautiful weather with intermittent drizzle, almost like the English summer :D
Took this shot after a brief spell of drizzle in the late evening.

FYI.. this photo got the “1st Runner up” place in the weekly photography forum at office. Was little disappointed in not getting the top notch, but elated all the same. Thanks to all those who criticized and gave feedback. Solicit your continued criticism and feedback on the photographs. Cheers :)

A Heavy Trigger Finger

Before I Hit the Shutter, I ask:

  • 'Taking' a snapshot or 'Making' a picture? 'Taking' & 'Making' are like chalk & cheese. A lot more goes into the making!
  • What mode do I want to shoot in?  Creative modeManual, Av, Tv or Auto modeAuto or a pre-programed mode?
  • What F-Stop or Shutter Speed am I going to use?
  • What format do I want to shoot?   RAW or jpeg? or both? ..RAW rules the roost!!
  • What’s my ISO? Is it fast/slow enough?  Too grainy for the shot?
  • What White Balance am I set on?  never mind, more often than not, PP to the rescue!
  • What Metering Mode should I be on?  Evaluative, Partial, Spot or CWA
  • What Colour setting do I need?
  • Am I going to use Manual or AF
  • Do I want to use Auto Exposure Bracketing for the shot?  HDR in mind..?
  • Am I going to use a FlashAnd how am I going to use it? .. aah, this is a toughie alright!!
  • What story am I trying to tell?   the photograph should speak for itself..!!
  • Do I need to change lenses? If so, which one?  Scratch your head...This is an all time toughie!!
  • Am I shooting in Landscape or Portrait perspective, or even a jaunty angle?
  • Do I need to use a Tripod
  • Will I use the Rule of Thirds or break it?
  • What other rules should I be following?  the Sunny f16 rule or perhaps the Tripod rule
  • Are there Leading Lines, Horizontal lines, Diagonals I can use in the shot?
  • What about finding an S-curve for the leading line?
  • Is there any thing I can use to Frame my picture?  eg. Tree branches.
  • Can I use any foreground element in the shot without detracting from the subject?
  • Is the background cluttered and distracting?
  • Will I change this to B&W, Sepia or something else in PP?
  • Do I have a Focal Point
  • Is my subject Moving or Stationary
  • For Moving Subjects, do I want to Pan the shot, Blur the background or Blur the subject
  • For a portrait, is the focus primarily on the eyes? Is the background blurred out?
  • Is there a Pattern I can pick up on?
  • How’s the lighting? Are the Shadows harsh or weak? Do I want to emphasize them?  okie dokie... this is a dodgy one! perhaps play around with light back-lighting, side-lighting or front-lighting ;)
  • Should I deliberately boost or ramp down the EV?
  • Is the light too strong? Will it wash out detail?
  • Is my horizon straight? Is it cutting across 'dead-centre' in the frame?
  • Can I get this at a better angle?  its all about perspectives mate..
  • Should I wait for better lighting?   this is another dicey one!
  • What does the light meter read?  dont't let the light meter get the better of you mate!!
  • Should I increase shutter speed or open up the aperture
  • Is it in focus?  ..duh!!
  • Did I just miss a great shot?  gee mate..!!

With all these questions, it’s a wonder that I still haven't lost my sanity, or the enamour for photography and the the willingness to learn it. Life was so much simpler when all I did was point and shoot! Certainly less stressful!!  :-D :-)

Simply put it....Man, the created one, has no right to question God, the Creator!!

Dad helped with me with the umbrella, while I fidgeted with the cam and the tripod. Ahem.. don't try this when there's a lightning storm brewing overhead!!

Mohit Chauhan's live concert in Infy. Apparently I never knew who Mohit Chauhan was or for that matter any of his songs and neither was I interested in listening to the music! As far as I was concerned it was a great photo op not be missed. The dodgy lighting on the stage made photography challenging.

Self critique.. phew..!!

Is the composition good or do you think it could have been better if the subject would have been at a different position? Is the centre of interest to your liking? Is the centre of interest given enough emphasis? If you are showing the mountain range, do you have more focus or emphasis on clouds or foreground elements that distract?

Is the eye contact good and engaging? Do you think that the photographer could have tried to move closer? Some crawling in the belly would have been good? Or waiting at a place for the subject to come closer?

Do you think that the background is right? Well diffused or distracting? Did I use shallow depth of field (an aperture of f4, f5.6 etc to isolate the main element and throw the background out of focus)? Or do you think that using a higher aperture (f8 and above) has helped in bringing more of the background into focus and thus giving a good idea about the subject and its environment?

Do you think the image could have been brighter? Is the exposure right? Are there underexposed and overexposed portions in the image?

Does it strike an emotional chord in you? Or is there something different that you can do?

A few damning, but to be asked questions...!! :) :)

Inspiration....

“Inspiration does not come like a bolt. Nor is it kinetic, energetic striving. It comes into us slowly and quietly all the time, though we must regularly and every day give it a little chance to start flowing, prime it with a little solitude and idleness.” – Brenda Ueland

Tiny drops make a mighty splash!!

I've been wanting to try this drip-drop photography for sometime. But the sheer thought of getting my patience tested put me off. But today, with absolutely zilch to do, I got myself determined to try my hand at this. So got the setup ready; a dripping faucet, and an utensil below to catch the drops. I knew it wasn’t going to be easy. Put the cam on Manual Exposure mode and in continuous firing mode and started clicking away. I must have easily taken around 50 shots, but they were all disappointing and the thought of giving up crept in. Just tried another round, and this time I had one good looking shot. Oh Boy!! Was I excited..??!! :)
Hope to keep improving on this. It needs oodles and oodles of patience. Practice makes perfect, indeed!!

"Foxes have holes and the birds of the air have lodging places, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay His head. ~Matt 8:20"

I was busy admiring and taking a few pot-shots of this beautiful scene, when a verse came to my mind.."Foxes have holes and the birds of the air have lodging places, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay His head." Come to think of it, I've taken pains to travel to places to catch sunrises and sunsets, but this thought had never occurred to me before! Later, spent some time on this portion (Matt 8:19-22), and by His mercies I was able to see an aspect of discipleship; the aspect of counting the cost to be a disciple. The Lord's paradoxical answer had me stumped. Both the men seemed eager to follow the Lord, but the Lord apparently looked at their hearts. In the Jewish teacher, the Lord found a hasty heart that never counted the cost of following Him. But then what really is counting the cost..?? Somehow couldn't get the answer to this until a week later. The answer was in Numbers 33. The Lord was with the Israelites as long as they had the heart to move forward. But when they began to settle down, the Lord gives them a warning.. (Numbers 33:55-56).
